Danny Adkins for Bloominggrove Township Trustee,

 My name is Danny E. Adkins. I am running for re-election as Bloominggrove Township Trustee. I am 66 years old. I have lived in the Shiloh / Bloominggrove township area all my life. I served 3 years in the U.S. Navy. My wife Sue and I have been married for 44 years and we have two daughters, Amy and Jennifer.  I have served as a Bloominggrove Township Trustee for the past 14 years and as board chairman 10 of those years.

  In the time that I have been on the board we have worked very hard to upgrade our equipment, facility and rebuild and pave our roads. When I started on the board there were only 3 completely paved township roads. Now we have 14 of a total of 15  hard surfaced. We are working on the one remaining road and will finish it in the near future. We continue to improve our cemeteries and roads without the financial help of extra tax levies that many of the surrounding townships have. We have neither a road nor a cemetery tax levy and I hope we can keep it that way. These are not easy tasks as Bloominggrove Township has one of the smallest budgets in Richland County. our projected budget for next year is quite a bit less than this year and we will have greater expenses some of which being, The county commissioners are taking a large percentage of our permissive sales tax  share for 2010 to use it to help fund the 911 emergency system also we are asked to help fund the sheriffs road patrol. This is all taken away from our road maintenance fund.  A poor economy and less money being spent in Richland County mean less tax dollars coming into our budget. These new financial burdens mean that we as township trustees must be even more mindful of expenses and continue to help with a lot of the labor and hands on work as well as administration. The present trustees do this already. A Trustee must have the experience and knowledge on how to perform this type of work and a license to operate the equipment, such as snow plows and dump trucks.  I am not sure all candidates running for trustee this year have these qualifications. We have a good board of trustees that try to work out any disagreements and work as a team. I hope we can keep our experienced trustees on the board after this election. Times will be tough enough in this economy even for the trustees that understand these problems.

 In my time on the board of trustees I have learned a lot and enjoyed serving Bloominggrove Township. I have tried to put the welfare of our township first in all my decisions. I hope the residents of Bloominggrove Township can see fit to re-elect me for another term this November.
