TO PERRY TOWNSHIP VOTERS:

I grew up on a farm in Perry Township– the farm where I now live.  My father was elected to the Board of Trustees when I was a young teenager – I observed his dedication to the township, and the satisfaction he derived from it, for the next twenty years.  When I left the farm to teach high school in Mansfield, I vowed that someday I would return – and run for township trustee.

After over 30 years of teaching, I did return to the old farm – built a new house, (one that keeps the snow on the outside in the winter) and relaxed.  Again, I was enjoying the beautiful rolling hills, the quiet streams, the extensive wooded areas, and the security of agricultural crops and gardens growing all around. But, something was missing.  Oh yes, the promise I had made to myself (and to my father) to run for trustee someday – My wife reminded me: Someday had arrived.

That was four years ago.  I did run, and was honored to have been elected by the residents of Perry Township  – elected to help nurture and protect the portion of this earth they call home.

My colleagues have elected me to Chair the Board 3 of the 4 years of my term.  I have prepared and provided written agendas for every meeting.  I started the semiannual newsletter when I came into office and continue to write it. I have promoted improvements in the township zoning resolution.  I have promoted wise spending, and the township remains in the black with reasonable reserves for the rainy day. (Wise spending for necessary, affordable, items is more responsible, and more efficient, than stubborn refusal to spend for anything.)  I have promoted the recovery and remodeling of the old township house for trustee meetings.  I have attended workshops and seminars to improve my knowledge of township government. I am working to develop a township neighborhood WATCH program.  I am working on a website for Perry Township.  I am out of space, but not out of ideas and energy to use  for the good of Perry Township.  Keep me working for you.   I would appreciate your vote.
