MARION, OH- Marion Wings and Wheels Inc., a 501 c 3 non-profit organization, is bringing back the Ford Tri-Motor for its fourth annual Fly-in and Cruise-in on September 15 and 16 at KMNN, Marion Municipal Airport.

The Ford Tri-Motor, nicknamed “The Tin Goose”, was know as the worldʼs first luxury airliner. It is powered by three Wright J-6-9 Whirlwind 9-cylinder radial engines rated at three hundred horsepower each. It has a maximum speed of 132 mph with a cruising speed of 107 mph. The plane can accommodate 11 passengers and will be selling rides.

This yearʼs event will welcome former NASA astronauts Robert “Hoot” Gibson and his wife Margret Rhea Seddon, M.D. and NASAʼs “Journey To Tomorrow” traveling exhibit. “Hoot” will be bringing his remote-controlled model jet plane for an exhibition flight(s).

Captain Evan Peck, Commander, U.S. Army Recruiting Company has acquired the U.S. ARMYʼs Extreme Truck for display and is working on securing military aircraft. He hinted at a Blackhawk and/or Chinook helicopter and a fly-by of F-16 Falcons for the opening ceremony.

Some of last yearʼs crowd pleasers are coming back to bring the thrill of flight to the community: Dewey Davenport with Goodfolk & OʼTymes Biplane Rides and Andy Gordon with Busy Bee Helicopter Rides. Davenportʼs plane is a 1930 D-25 New Standard that can carry four passengers. Andy Gordonʼs helicopter is a Bell-47 very similar to the helicopters seen in the television series M*A*S*H. “Flying Tiger Tots & Tykes” Pedal Plane Races is a first this year with 10 pedal planes.

“Iʼve always wanted to have these races for the kids and parents. It should be a really fun event for everyone”, Audrey Wagner, Pedal Plane Flight Director. Another addition to the fly-in will be food trucks. There will be eight to ten food trucks this year providing a variety of food for every taste from pizza to gyros so come to the fly-in hungry! Mark your calendar for September 15 & 16, 2018 from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. More information is available at wingswheelsmarion.org and on their Facebook page.
