ASHLAND, OH - Ashland University will be holding events on campus in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Dr. Ronnie A. Dunn from Cleveland State University has been invited to campus to speak on "Racial Profiling: The Content of Their Character or the Color of Their Skin?"

The event will take place January 21st, 2019, at 7:00 PM in the Jack and Deb Miller Chapel. The event is free and open to the public and also features musical selections by the Ashland University Chamber Singers with Alli Lange, student conductor.

Dunn is the director of Institutional Diversity and an associate professor of Urban Studies at CSU. He works on issues affecting minorities and the urban poor with a particular focus on race, crime and the criminal justice system. He also chairs the Cleveland NAACP’s Criminal Justice Committee. He is a native Clevelander, a U.S. Air Force veteran, and a frequent commentator in local, national and international media outlets.

Dunn was appointed by Governor John Kasich to the Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory Board, which has established statewide policing standards and he provided written testimony to President Barack Obama’s Taskforce on 21st Century Policing.

Dunn’s most recent book, "Boycotts, Busing, & Beyond," published by Kendall-Hunt Publishing in 2016, uses the Cleveland School Desegregation Case to examine the history and implications of school desegregation in northern urban centers.

Additional events include AU G.I.V.S hosting a day of service in conjunction with the Oxfam Hunger Banquet to raise awareness about food insecurity and provide food boxes to Ashland area seniors in need.
