Richland County Engineer Tom Beck gave his 2012 annual report to the commissioners Tuesday. He says nearly $5-million was spent on road, bridge, and guardrail improvements. The work included $704,750 of patching, paving, guardrail repair, berms, and crack sealing; $424,112 of road drainage improvements such as culverts, storm sewers, and ditches; $339,726 of seal coating; and $186,832 of guardrail replacements and repairs on Settlement East, Franklin Church, Marion Avenue, Lexington-Ontario, Washington South, Pleasant Valley, Alexander, Huntsman, Woodbury, Honey Creek, Armstrong, and McCurdy Roads. Bridges were also replaced on Woodville, Kerr, Ross, Noble, Bowers, Cockley, Hull, Mount Zion, London West, and Olivesburg-Fitchville Roads, and Smiley Avenue.   And 2013 will see the engineer's office keeping pace with the average of replacing at least ten bridges in each of the last twenty years, with bridges to be replaced on Possum Run, Lamp, Brown, Snake, Mill Run, Mengert, and Reynolds Roads. Beck's annual report even looks ahead to 2014, with plans to replace at least five bridges, and re-align Possum Run Road at Teeter Road in Worthington Township.
