It started as a prank text message. But that message has landed two Ontario High School students in serious trouble.

Supt. Lisa Carmichael said the two teenage girls sent a text that what was threatening in nature to another student on Tuesday. The girls say it was just a prank. But, Carmichael says that text induced panic and caused a major disruption.

"No student names were ever mentioned in the content of the text message," Carmichael said. "What I think is really important for parents and for us educators is that we have to continue to educate our students about text messages. They may think they're joking about something when there is threatening contents in a text message or social media," Carmichael said.

"We take it very seriously. We want parents and the public to know safety and security is our number one priority," Carmichael said.

Carmichael said the girls have been suspended for ten days and are facing expulsion hearings. She said they also face charges from the Ontario Police Department.

Carmichael said the text did not prompt a lock-down because no lives were in danger.
