Mark J. Camp, Associate Professor at the University of Toledo, visited Galion to explain the historical importance of preserving and restoring Galion's "Big Four" train depot.

The Friends of the Galion Big Four Depot (FBFD) invited Camp because of his vast knowledge of such historical landmarks, making him the perfect candidate to speak about the topic.

"I've been photographing railroad depots across the continent, making a photographic history," said Camp. "So I'm here to give a little history about different types of railroad stations and why we should try to restore the Galion depot."

Camp has photographed and researched depots from nearly all of the fifty states and even some providences of Canada, so he hasn't had much time to spend in each location.

"I haven't been to Galion in probably six years," Camp said. "Seeing that the depot is still standing, although in disrepair, reminds me of when I saw it many years ago when it was still in operation," he recalled. "I'm just happy to revisit the community and check out the local railroad scene. I'm very happy to do that every so often, come back and see how things have changed."

The FBFD held their meeting at the First Lutheran Church on South Columbus Street. The meeting was originally going to take place at the depot itself, but due to unforeseen circumstances at the last minute, the venue was changed. All proceeds from the event will go toward the depot's restoration.
