Richland County Dog Warden David Jordan hasn't had to euthanize a dog because of lack of space at the Richland County Dog Shelter and Adoptive Center for the past several years, but that could change if more people don't come adopt.

The kennel has no room for incoming large dogs. Kennel attendant Miriah Merritt said the facility is at max capacity and the staff is working hard to get the dogs adopted.

"We're a no-kill shelter but we are at capacity. This is a county building so we have to take in all the stray dogs that come to us," Merritt said.

"We work really hard to try and get all the dogs out. We're just urging people to come out and adopt one of our large breeds," Merritt said.

John Yutuck is looking to adopt a second dog from the shelter. He said he's impressed with the shelter's staff and the dogs available for adoption.

"I recommend anybody to come out here to pick up a dog because the dogs are well loved and cared for. The staff nurses them back to health," Yutuck said.

"They're looking for homes please come and get a dog they really need somebody," Yutuck said.

The dog shelter is located at 810 N. Home Road. The hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The shelter is closed for Memorial Day but will re-open Tuesday.

For more information contact the shelter at 419- 774-5892.
