Boy Scout Troop 113 in Mansfield honored lost veterans on Memorial Day with a public display that many Americans have probably never seen before.

The troop led a flag retirement ceremony in Mansfield Central Park, giving 143 flags a proper departure. Troop member Caleb Wills put together the ceremony, earning a Life Rank badge for his efforts.

Wills says being awarded the badge "means a lot to me". The 6-year Boy Scout veteran says it took him roughly 35 hours to get the event together and that it was "a good thing to do for all the veterans".

Troop 113 Leader Mark Stelzer says "Memorial Day is a proper day to distinguish because a lot of our veterans and the ones that we have lost in the past, to remember them with our flags."

Stelzer added that retiring a flag is "quite a process", but believes honoring them with the proper procedure is worth while.
