A two-month-old baby boy was found dead Thursday afternoon in an upstairs bedroom at 281 Lexington Avenue in Mansfield.

Police, the coroner, and Richland County Children Services are investigating what's described as the home's filthy condition; and whether neglect was involved, with the 19-year-old mother sleeping for 21-and-a-half hours. She told police she had slept from 3 p.m. Wednesday to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, when one of the others who live in the house awoke her and said her baby was dead.

Five adults and several young children live in the house. The baby was found dead face-down in a carrier, apparently having not been checked for hours. No charges have been filed at this time.
