Across-the-board acquittals Friday afternoon in the trial of one of three men accused of involvment in a January fifth shooting on Burns Street in Mansfield. 25-year-old Delbert Evans was charged with attempted murder, felonious assault, improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation, and tampering with evidence. He was accused of participating in the shooting of Eric Downs the third. One of the co-defendants is Jarmel Sutton, accused of starting the confrontation after Downs had hit Sutton's S-U-V with his car. Sutton says he confronted Downs, and they were preparing to fight, when several friends of Downs came out. Feeling outnumbered, Sutton left and called Delbert Evans and his brother DeVonte Evans. The state rested its case after Sutton testified, and the defense chose not to call witnesses and rested. Closing arguments followed.  The trial lasted two days in Richland County Common Pleas Court, again resulting in not guilty verdicts on all counts.
