Hundreds of cancer survivors celebrated one more year of beating the odds at Friday's annual Cancer Survivors Day celebration.

Ohio Health-Med Central welcomed survivors and their guests into Fairhaven Hall at the Richland County Fairgrounds as a way to observe their perseverance through the deadly illness.

Patti Kastelic, Director of Nursing for Ohio Health-Med Central, says the celebration is a way for caregivers to give back to their patients through a day of hope and support.

Dr. Viswanathan, better known as "Dr. V" at Ohio Health-Med Central, says that hope should grow even more in the future with exciting new developments in cancer research.

An estimated 1.6 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in 2014. However, less than 586,000 are expected to lose their lives from the illness.
