Worthington Township Trustee Clark Swank testified in his own defense Friday in his Theft in Office trial in Richland County Common Pleas Court.

The 64-year-old is accused of stealing four-thousand dollars worth of diesel fuel from the township, while using his personal vehicle to check road conditions while serving as the township's road superintendent.

Under direct examination by defense attorney Robert Whitney, Clark testified he kept logs of the mileage he put on his truck for township business, but no logs were kept of fuel consumption.

Under cross examination, assistant prosecutor Deborah Woodward asked Swank if the township allows mileage reimbursement for local travel. He said no, but there's no written policy about it.

Judge James DeWeese is hearing the case without a jury. He will issue his verdict in writing on a future date.
