Mansfield Schools have a unique educational environment in the Springmill Learning Center. And a committee has been formed with the goal of finding ways to generate enough revenue to sustain itself and stay open, while the district cuts the budget and tries to climb out of fiscal emergency. WMFD's Greg Heindel talked with one of the panel's co- chairs about its efforts. Doctor Dawn Kitchen, an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Ohio State- Mansfield, says Springmill needs to attract more students from a larger area. She says it also needs corporate funding. The Springmill Learning Center features the popular rope course, and fourteen galleries covering such topics as chemistry, earth science, and forensic crime scene investigation. The committee has until August to come up with a sustainability plan Superintendent Brian Garverick and the Mansfield school board can approve and present to the fiscal oversight commission.
