The city of Ashland was recently ranked the eighth most affordable college town in the United States by Great Value Colleges website.

The list took into account each college towns cost of living, combined with the average cost of a one-bedroom apartment. Ashland ranked in the top eight in each category with a cost of living index of 88.5 and an average price of $515/month for a one-bedroom apartment.

Several Ashland University students from out of state and urban areas around Ohio say they have noticed the low cost of living in comparison to their hometowns.

Director of Admissions for A.U., W.C. Vance, says that affordability has come more to the forefront of a students college choice over the last seven years. He believes the opportunities to engage in activities at "low or no cost" in the Ashland area have factored into many students decisions to attend the University.

Students also cited these low cost activities as big money savers throughout their college careers, along with A.U.'s recent tuition cuts of $10,000 per school year.

Also making the top 50 from Ohio in most affordable college towns were Findlay at #43 and Columbus ranked 26th on the list.
