A big part of Mansfield business history has a date with the wrecking ball. The old Mansfield Foundry is being torn down. It dates back to the late 1800's when it was built as part of neighboring Ohio Brass. The Citation Corporation closed it in 2002, and the city took possession of the property the following year. Much work has gone into cleaning-up the contaminated property and securing $1.5- million for demolition. The property should be cleared by the end of the year, then more contamination clean-up begins. Two small operations continue in the buildings at the front of the large foundry property.
