A former Worthington Township trustee appears in court to learn his fate after being convicted last month of Theft in Office. Clark Swank was sentenced Monday in Richland County Common Pleas Court. The 64-year-old Swank was accused of taking diesel fuel from the township's pump for use in his personal vehicle. He claims he used the fuel for township business and had an agreement with another trustee that this was allowable, but the trustees never passed a resolution during a public meeting permitting it. Judge James DeWeese ordered Swank to pay $4069 in restitution and placed him on two years probation. Swank would face a one-year prison term if he should violate probation. Swank ceased to be a Worthington Township trustee as soon as the guilty verdict was handed down, because a person with a felony conviction cannot serve in public office.
