A young mother died Thursday in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. Several other teenagers were injured. All were on their way to the prom. That's the scenario for the 25th annual Richland County Mock Crash. Juniors and seniors from nine high schools arrive at the fairgrounds to keep a preview of the carnage before the heart-wrenching drama unfolds. The injured victims get out of their cars and call for help, which brings a highway patrol trooper, a sheriff's deputy, police officers, and rescue squads racing to the scene. The boyfriend of the girl who dies attacks the drunk driver in a fit a rage and grief. The crash victim's spirit rises from her body as she vainly tries to convince herself and others she's still alive. But she is taken away in a hearse, to her funeral. 39,000 Richland County high school students have witnessed the dramatic Mock Crash since it was created by the 4-H Youth Safety Council in 1990.
