Cool but sunny weather greeted the hundreds of people who filled the gazebo area of Mansfield's Central Park Thursday for the 58th observance of the National Day of Prayer. The non-denominational prayer assembly includes a time of worship and fellowship, songs by many local musicians and a performance by the Image Choir from Mansfield Christian School. Serving as the keynote speaker was Richland County Juvenile Court Judge Ron Spon who says the National Day of Prayer is important, not just as an observance, but to actually participate in its purpose, which is to pray. This year's theme nationwide is "One Voice, United in Prayer." The National Day of Prayer has been celebrated on the first Thursday of May since 1952, when it was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
