The Richland County chapter of the American Red Cross handed-out its annual Community Hero awards Thursday. A large crowd packed a banquet room at the Mansfield Holiday Inn for the fundraising breakfast.

Fifteen awards were presented, in twelve categories. The awards recognize ordinary members of the community who have shown courage, compassion, character, or humanity by saving or improving the lives of others.

The Red Cross is seeking sponsorships from local organizations and businesses, ranging from $250 to $5,000. Contributions help the chapter provide services.

The winners are: Call To Action Hero, Sarah Close. Animal Advocate, Tami Rex. Spirit of the Red Cross; Judy Tridico, Rev. Joe Ashby. Fire Rescue Heroes; Jared Durstine, Dan Krizan, Tim Tingley. Military Inspiration Hero, Lt. Nick vogt. Empowerment Educator, Garland Gates. Community Educators, Richland Newhope Dance Troupe. Presence to Remember, Ettore "Eddie" Chiudioni.
