Local students in the Ashland area were honored Thursday evening for their contributions to the community. The Ashland County Community Foundation hosted it's seventh annual 'Kids Who Care' Awards Program Thursday night.

The purpose of the program is to recognize students in grades K-12 who demonstrate giving back. The 27 students honored at the event received certificates and a beautiful potted perennial. The idea behind giving them the plant; just like a perennial keeps blossoming, they hope the children's efforts to give back to their community bloom and grow.

Top Achievers within the group recognized received a check for $100, which students will "pay forward" to a charity of their choice. Since 1995, The Ashland County Community Foundation has raised more than 7 million dollars. Following the creed of the organization; to advance philanthropy and improve the quality of life in Ashland County by supporting charitable activities in the community.

None of this would be possible without the leadership of Dr. Lucille Ford, who was the President of the organization for the past 17 years. Her dream of recognizing our youth who give back, is now a reality. For more information about the ACCF, visit accommunityfoundation.org
