Students from The Ohio State University are conducting research this week of the 640 acres of woodlands that comprise Ohio State University Mansfield.

The research is part of a capstone class, ENR 4900 Environment and Natural Resources Management for Forestry Fisheries and Wildlife. OSU Columbus associate professor of Wildlife Ecology and Management Robert Gates and adjunct instructor Daniel Yaussy participated in the project.

"They're covering 640 acres of all the important resource areas here everything from pine plantation, streams and rental pools. They're basically measuring various aspects of vegetation, counting wildlife and wetlands," Gates said.

"Reports from last year identified some areas of concern and areas of interest. The administration at the campus used the data to change some of their plans. The administration is dedicated to using the information to improve their plans," Yaussy said.

This marks the second year for the project. The data collected by the students will be developed into tables and graphs for establishing goals for the campus.
