The Ohio State Highway Patrol held a checkpoint on Park Avenue West to deter and intercept impaired drivers. The Highway Patrol, in conjunction with Mansfield Police Department, directed cars into the parking lot of Crossroads Church as they made further inspection.

Lieutenant Chad Enderby of the State Highway Patrol said "We'll stop every car that comes through. We just talk to the driver for 15-20 seconds, see if they have a driver's license with them, and while engaging in conversation with them, see if they display any signs of impairment."

While not every car was directed into the church parking lot, a few were asked to pull in for further testing.
