A Mifflin Township man has built a tribute to a fallen soldier and it's attracting all sorts of attention. When his uncle who fought through Vietnam passed away, Wes Lyons and his family were hurt by the hole he left when he passed. However, Wes decided to honor his uncle's memory by building a memorial.

"I did a small drawing and I showed some people, and I said 'You know, I want to go all-out on this,'" said Lyons.

Now, Wes' memorial stands 30 feet tall and is displayed proudly in his front yard. The gigantic display comes apart in three pieces, enabling Lyons to take it down and move it easily if he wants.

"In the long run, we'd like to find a site and donate it to whoever would like to put it up permanently," Lyons said. "But I'd like to leave it out here until Memorial Day."

The memorial is pretty popular in the area, slowing down traffic as onlookers stare at the display. Lyons says since putting it up, he's gotten numerous requests from people wanting their picture taken with it.

"This is sentimental to me, and it turned out really awesome," Lyons said. "I'm sure a lot of the neighbors are surprised," he added.
