Two more corrections officers are being hired for the Richland County Jail, to start in June or July. During a discussion with the commissioners Thursday about jail staffing needs, Jail Administrator Captain Chris Blunk the Sheriff's office plans to open part of the third floor, adding 41 beds to the current capacity of 193. That creates the need to bring staffing up from 65 to 67. Blunk also proposes hiring 12 more corrections officers next year which would allow the rest of the third floor to re-open, bringing the jail to its full capacity of 266 beds. The money for the two corrections officers is budgeted. The commissioners will see how next year's budget looks before making a decision on the extra dozen jailers.
