Pioneer Career and Technology Center students get a special visitor Friday, to talk to them about the importance of vocational education and the skilled trades. State Treasurer Josh Mandel came up from Columbus to tell an auditorium filled with students the work they will do someday will be the backbone of Ohio's economy. Mandel is taking two approaches in his effort to keep shop classes in high schools, and expand vocational education. Mandel told the students, Ohio manufacturing not only competes with other states but other countries in a global economy, and having a large supply of skilled workers is essential to the state's growth and prosperity.
