The city of Shelby welcomed a new business in an old building Tuesday afternoon, holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony for The Vault Wine Bar.

Located in a former downtown bank built in 1911, the grandeur architecture of the former bank vault contribute to the bars name and nostalgic atmosphere. The Vault co-owner Cindy Lash says she and partner Ben Lash had been discussing the idea of opening a wine bar and decided "this would be the perfect location".

Located at 29 West Main Street, the venue currently seats 80 indoors and will open a patio area soon that will seat an additional 80 guests. When the patio area is complete, Ben says they "plan on having some live entertainment on the weekends".

Although The Vault is a wine bar, typically associated as an upscale setting, Ben says "mostly we want to emphasize that we're just about being kind of a casual, relaxed atmosphere".

Aside from a large selection of wine, The Vault will also feature craft beers, artisan pizzas, salads and desserts. Their hours are from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday's and Saturday's.
