Ontario City Council accepted a bid at Thursday night's regular meeting for a new water meter system that will be beneficial to residents.

The new electronic water meter fixed network system is said to detect leaks in underground plumbing that can save the city and it's residents thousands of dollars. Ontario Mayor Randy Hutchinson says the new system will cost just under $1 million to install and that the city can recoup that investment in just six years worth of savings.

Hutchinson says the new system is badly needed because the current system is "failing at a rapid rate".

Council also released a list of musical events that will take place at Marshall Park's new band shell. Hutchinson says each concert will be free to the public. For a full list of events, check out City of Ontario on Facebook.
