The Mansfield Police Explorer Post 4751 participated in the annual Heart of Ohio Law Enforcement Explorer Competition back in April, along with 49 other teams from around the state. Each squad competed in a number of skill scenario's frequently encountered in law enforcement and the Mansfield Post proved to be one of the best in Ohio.

The team took first place medals in three different competitions and earned a second place finish over all. Now the young crew of 14 to 19 year-old's are preparing for the National Law Enforcement Explorer Competition coming up July 14- 19 in Bloomington, Indiana.

Officer Paul Lumadue, who has been working with the Explorers program for six years now, says he anticipates the team will do well at nationals. Lumadue says it's "pretty shocking for the kids" when they first arrive at the national event, in large part because of the massive number of competitors.

Between 300- 500 teams will make their way to nationals, Lumadue says, but he and his bunch are confident they can eclipse the posts best ever finish of sixth place.

The Mansfield Law Enforcement Explorers are youth between the ages of 14-21 who are interested in a career in law enforcement. Youth train with police officers in skills to prepare them for law enforcement careers by exposing them to all areas of law enforcement from local to federal positions.
