Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease were the topics of a conference Thursday at the District Five Area Agency on Aging. Sixty caregivers who work for nursing homes, assisted living centers, and the Agency on Aging attended the meeting. The keynote speaker was Doctor Alan Jay Lerner, a Neurology Professor for the Case Western Reserve University Medical School. He says dementia affects short-term memory and can develop into Alzheimer's, which wipes out everything you remember about your life. Lerner says new methods of dementia research and treatment are being tried, but no cure is in sight. For more information about dementia research and treatment, call 216-464-6449.
