Nearly four years of being in fiscal emergency, and living under state oversight, are over for the city of Mansfield. The Financial Planning and Supervision Commission met Monday morning before city council to say Mansfield has met every condition for managing its money and getting out of debt, and is now released from fiscal emergency. Ohio Auditor of State Dave Yost says this is great day for Mansfield, and Mayor Tim Theaker says the city administration, city council, and employees deserve to share the credit. Yost gave Mansfield a Certificate in Recognition of Fiscal Integrity, with a warning the balances shrink in its five-year forecast, and the city must avoid deficits. The commission commends Mansfield for passing a quarter-percent income tax, which it says should help the city maintain its financial health for coming years.
