Original Published: 9/1/2008Small town America comes alive each month in the village of Mifflin in Ashland County. On the last Saturday of the month, people flock to the Mifflin Lions Community Center for a swiss steak dinner.

It allows the community to enjoy the dinner, complete with swiss steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, dessert and drink, and the opportunity to mingle with family members and friends, as well as support many Mifflin Lions Club projects.

Mifflin Lions Club secretary/treasurer Jim Bitterman says they prepare a meal for 300 people each month and most of the time, it's a sell-out.

Bitterman says the proceeds go toward the upkeep of the community center and for Lions Club projects like eye research, pilot dogs for the blind and eyeglasses for those in the community who can't afford it.
