The Richland County Sheriff's office bought six new cruisers earlier this year, but another batch of aging high-mileage cars must now be replaced. Sheriff Steve Sheldon and Sergeant John Nicholson, who oversees the fleet, are asking the commissioners to allocate $110,000 to buy six more cruisers. Nicholson says several of the cars have more than 100,000 miles on them, and they're becoming more expensive to maintain than they're worth. The commissioners say they'll consider borrowing the money, as they did for the last cruiser purchase, but first want to see what will happen with the state's local government funding and casino revenue, before taking on this large financial obligation. |
