After a 47-32 win over Ferris State last Saturday evening, the Ashland University Eagles have started the season 3-0 for the first time since 2005. AU quarterback Taylor Housewright helped to lead the charge passing for 438 yards and four touchdowns as the Eagles stormed out to a 23-0 halftime lead. Although the team is 3-0, head coach Lee Owens still has concerns especially with his short yardage offense, inparticular being stopped on fourth and goal from just inside the Ferris State one yard line in the first half. This week the Eagles will fly up to Northern Michigan University for a 2pm kickoff against the Wildcats. The 'Cats come in at 1-2 and have been hammered in two conference games against Findlay 45-10 and Ohio Dominican 47-7. But Owens still has concerns about NMU spread offense and the fact that AU has not played well inside the Superior Dome. Owens comments that he can't put his finger on it, but playing inside at Northern Michigan is different, much different than playing outside. In Owens eight seasons at Ashland U. the Eagles have only won once at NMU, 24-17 in 2006. Should the Eagles come away winners on Saturday it will mark the first time since 1991 that Ashland University has started a football season 4-0. AU finished '91 at 9-2. |
