Shelby High School government students held a "Meet the Candidates" event Thursday night as part of their community service requirement.

   With the assistance of their teacher, Steve Steward, the students prepared questions for the five candidates in attendance.  Steward says this is the appropriate age to begin educating the students on government issues as many of them prepare to vote in this year's election.
   
  Those in attendance were District 2 State Representative candidates, Mark Romanchuk  and Ellen Harring, District 12 U.S. Congressman candidate James Reese and Richland County Commissioner incumbents Tim Wert and Gary Utt.
