Ashland City Council Tuesday night threw its unanimous support behind the Ashland City Schools 3.7-mill bond issue on the Nov. 6 General Election ballot to fund new school facilities. Council president Stephen Stuart says when he was the superintendent with the Marion City Schools in the 1980's, he was always impressed with Ashland students when they came to Marion for extra-curricular activities and thought Ashland was a nice city when he visited it. But he also questioned why Ashland residents would allow its middle school to exist when it was in such a deplorable condition and that was 25 years ago at the time. Stuart says he was happy to see council back the bond issue. Stuart says through the years he has heard many stories about people who accepted jobs in Ashland but would live elsewhere because of their concerns over several of the schools older buildings, another reason why he supports the bond issue in order to attract families and businesses to town. |
