An open house will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday to celebrate the 200th birthday of the Mansfield Blockhouse, located in South Park on Brinkerhoff Avenue. Local historians and genealogists will be on hand to answer questions and volunteers, some in period costume, will share their knowledge about the history of the Mansfield Blockhouse and various War of 1812 era skills, such as making shakes for a roof, spinning wool, making ink and cooking. Some local authors and artists will be in attendance to discuss and display their creations. The Mansfield Blockhouse is open from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays until South Park closes for the winter on Oct. 15, so this is the last opportunity to tour the blockhouse this year. |
