A semi-truck swerved off U.S. 30 Friday morning, crashed through the guardrail, rolled down a small embankment, burst through a fence, and came to rest in a vacant lot, knocking down a tree. The accident happened shortly before six o'clock, with the truck narrowly missing a small house on Crestline Avenue. Neighboring resident Brad Fike was lying on the living roof couch watching TV when he heard the commotion. He said it sounded like a freight train. He ran outside and saw the truck, and said someone yelled the driver was okay. Mansfield firefighters were called to clean-up leaking diesel fuel, while a crew unloaded the trailer of 41,000 pounds of ham. It was put into a dumpter because one of the workers said it was unfit for human consumption because the packages broke open and the ham was spoiling by being in a warmer than acceptable temperature. |
