One in three people can say they know someone who has been impacted by Alzheimer's. That's why the Alzheimer's Association invited Mansfield area residents to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's this past weekend at the Richland Carrousel Park to raise awareness and raise funds for various local programs. Alzheimer's Association Northwest Ohio Chapter Executive Director Salli Bollin says they are offering many new programs and services in the Mansfield area such as a program where they go into the home and provide exercise for people with Alzheimer's disease, as well as work with the family to help them understand the disease more and help them cope and manage as best as possible. She says another new program includes a new early stage group started in Mansfield, so people who may have been recently diagnosed with this disease and want to learn more about it and how to manage and learn about community resources can. Bollin says the research in the field continues to grow, unfortunately, there are no new treatments at this point in time but there are many research studies taking place around the country, as well as some throughout the world to try and find ways to treat and eliminate this disease. Between 200-250 walkers were taking part in this year's event with a goal of raising $35,000.
