Mansfield celebrated the bicentennial of its Blockhouse and Richland County's history with an open house this past weekend. Mansfield Blockhouse Completion Committee Chairwoman Sunda Peters talked about when the structure was built during the period of the War of 1812. Volunteers were on hand, many in period costume, to share their knowledge about the history of the Blockhouse and to show off the skills from that era, from spinning wool, to cooking and making ink. The Mansfield Blockhouse is open from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays but is now closed for the winter and will reopen in May. |
