The City of Shelby is taking steps to move forward with a downtown park and amphitheatre for entertainment and performances. Roadways would need to be vacated and dedicated to help accomplish the plan for the proposed park. The area where the park would be constructed is where homes were destroyed in the flood of 2007. Through FEMA's Mitigation Grants obtained by the city, all of the houses in the area have since been demolished. There are also plans for a pavilion in the park to host small weddings, birthday parties and other special events. Flood Plain Manager Joe Gies says FEMA is looking for success stories of its Mitigation Grant funding and will be visiting the downtown park project. |
