Hospice care is coming to the Richland County assisted living facility Dayspring. Director Bill Cunning and Dallas Waggle of Southern Care Hospice at 775 Lexington Avenue told the commissioners Tuesday about their plans. They say the service is intended for residents who need extra care, but would rather stay at what they have come to consider home rather than be transferred to a nursing home. The hospice care will not cost the county or Dayspring anything, because Southern Hospice Care bills medicare and medicaid for its services. Cunning expects about half-a-dozen of Dayspring's sixty residents to receive hospice care each year. The commissioners tentatively approved the arrangement, but want a formal contract drawn-up and signed. |
