Mansfield Law Director John Spon proposed an ordinance to city council Tuesday, which places a one-year moratorium on the construction or operation of any injection wells in the Mansfield Industrial Park.

Council approved the legislation with a 7-to-0 vote.

"We have over 80 companies that are in our industrial park and this moratorium will give the city adequate time to pass appropriate regulations to protect our industrial park," Spon said.

"Our goal is to protect our existing millions of dollars of outstanding businesses that our out there," said Spon. "We need to promote our park, not poison it."

Spon says they are moving forward to develop other reasonable protective regulations.

The legislation goes into effect immediately.
