With this lingering mild weather, no one wants to think about snow and treacherous driving conditions. But the Ohio Department of Transportation is. O-DOT held its winter readiness event Thursday at its garage on West Fourth Street in Mansfield. All of the snowplow trucks were inspected to make sure they're ready for the arrival of old man winter. O-DOT is also the first in the nation to add green strobe lights to its trucks. District Three Public Information Officer Christine Myers says studies show green is the most visible color for motorists to spot at night, so it's being added to the amber and white strobe lights on the trucks. Myers says the Ohio Department of Transportation is financially prepared for a harsh winter, and saved more than $10-million on salt purchases due to a change in the way contracts are obtained. |
