The United Way of Richland County campaign is well on its way to the goal.

The total raised so far was announced Thursday morning.

About 200 people attended the Mid-Campaign Breakfast at the Mid-Ohio Conference Center.

United Way Board President Cathy Mosier, and some helpers, announced where they stand.

Mosier says $700,034 has been raised.  That $168,221 more than the $531,813 raised at this point last year.  The goal is $1.6-million.

Awards were given to the two leading businesses in the Pacesetter's Campaign, Mechanics Bank and Mansfield Motor Group, and to former United Autoworkers Local 549 President Johnny Givand who's involved in too many community service projects to list.

He received the first annual United Community Award.

United Way Director Bob Maxey says with the economy continuing to struggle, their member agencies need every dollar you can contribute.
