After two years as head football coach of the Shelby Whippets, Steve McCoy has stepped away from his position. McCoy met with members of the Shelby High School and Shelby Middle School teams Wednesday afternoon to announce his resignation as head coach. In his two seasons as head coach, the Whippets were 2-18 with both wins coming this season against Ontario (34-14) and against rival Willard (36-0). Coach McCoy was a late hire in June of 2011, and according to athletic director Pat Lewis at Shelby, he said, "Wins and losses aside, coach McCoy succeeded in stressing to his players the importance of personal accountability and responsibility." "In reguards to finding a replacement, during the next several weeks the administration will determine the appropriate time to begin the formal search for the school's next varsity football coach." The Whippets finished this past season at 2-8 overall and 1-4 in the Northern Ohio League. |
