Shelby City Council voted Monday night to hire Christina Thompson as the city's new Community and Economic Development Coordinator.

Thompson has lived in Shelby for eight years, and worked as an administrative assistant in the utilities office for two years.

She says she'll work on attracting new businesses and beautifying the town.

She says North-Central State College plans to build a convention center in Shelby, which could attract hotels and restaurants, and beautifcation work is already underway with a new park and street lighting.

Thompson replaces Aaron Wiegand, who took a similar job with the Richland Community Development Group, following the retirement of Herm Stein.
