Ontario voters rejected a 25-year, 1-mill bond issue to build an outdoor swimming pool in Marshall Park. The $3.1 million project would have been funded by an increase in property taxes at a rate of $35 per year for $100,000 of property value. Mayor Larry Collins says he and the Make It Ontario committee leading the effort are disappointed, but recognize voters are not interested in paying more taxes in these economic times. He says they believe the project would still be good for the community and businesses that would benefit from it, but he doubts another tax issue for it will appear on the ballot any time soon. |
