The Loss of Vision Support Group gathered Wednesday afternoon for their monthly meeting at The Waterford in Mansfield. The guest speaker was the Lions Club District B Governor Forrest Conrad Jr., who talked about how the club became involved with eyesight related projects and the various programs the club provides on a local and national basis. "It was a challenge the club had from Helen Keller back in 1925 and we took it on. The Lions Club is known for its participation in eyesight related activites," Conrad said. "We collect used eye glasses and get them to places that can use them. We help people purchase glasses and get eye exams. On an international level we have programs to eliminate preventable blindness worldwide," Conrad said. Conrad said District B is in the process of setting up an eye vision clinic in Lorain, Ohio. He said the eye center should be completed by March or April of 2013. The Loss of Vision Support Group meets the first and Wednesday of each month from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at The Waterford at 1296 S. Trimble Rd. in Mansfield. The American Council of the Blind of Ohio, Appleseed Chapter meets the first Wednesday of each month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at The Waterford.
