Though nobody on the team, coaches or players have been talking about it, the 10-0 Ashland University Eagles will try to make history Saturday afternoon at Jack Miller Stadium/Fred Martinelli Field by finishing the regular season undefeated, something that has only happened three times in school history 1954 (7-0), 1967 (8-0-1) and 1972 (11-0).  Standing in the way of a perfect regular season is 3-7 Notre Dame College of Ohio, who have won their last two against Walsh and Malone.

Notre Dame College boasts one of the better running backs in the GLIAC in Pedro Powell.  Through ten games Powell has run for 1,425 yards scoring 11 touchdowns.  He is a running back that the AU coaches say is comparable to Ashland's Jordan McCune.  The Eagles have already wrapped up the outright GLIAC football championship and on Sunday, the NCAA will announce it's Division II football playoff pairings.  If the Eagles win on Saturday, chances are they will receive a first round bye, then host a home playoff game at Jack Miller Stadium/Fred Matinelli Field on Saturday, November 24th.  That is also the same day of the Michigan at Ohio State football game which has a noon kickoff in Columbus.

The Eagles last trip to the playoffs came in 2008, when AU hosted the school's first ever home playoff game at Community Stadium in Ashland against Minnesota State-Mankato.  Ashland U. won on a cold windy rain-snow afternoon 27-16.  The Eagles playoff run would end the next week at Grand Valley State with a 40-7 loss to the Lakers wrapping up the season at 9-4.
